Nancy Drew is a fictional character that was written between 1930 and 1941. She was known as WASP super girl and had a reputation of being remarkable and very normal. Nancy was 16 years old from the mid west and was a young American girl who had many talents. She was the daughter of a very successful lawyer and often took advice from her father.
The Nancy Drew series was written by an author by the name of Carolyn Keene who sold over 30,000,000 copies of the series and was known for writing mysteries that were unexplained and Nancy would try to solve them. Nancy rarely got help from the police and would solve the mysteries on her own and get plenty of praise for doing so. In the series no one was ever murdered and Nancy was never in school. The mysteries never happened during the school year and during the time that Nancy would be in college, it was never mentioned.
The audience that read Nancy Drew books were between the ages of ten and twelve years old. The Nancy Drew series were rewritten in the 1960s and had shown some changes. The earlier books had stereotypes that were not proper and focused on racial and national groups and also depicted police in a not so proper way. These stereotypes were removed.
This article was written in 1973 and Nancy Drew still stands to be popular today.
